First Platform Basket 43T in UK

A new UK business, Elite Access Rentals, has purchased the first 43 metre Platform Basket Spider 43T Hybrid spider lift to arrive in the country.

Based in Bradford, Elite is a joint venture between Jonathan Hawksworth of truck mounted rental company Clearview Services and Adam Gallagher of spider lift rental company Tracked Access Platforms. The new company was registered in April to bring together the two partner’s combined experience of the truck and spider lift markets. They selected the Spider 43T Hybrid spider lift as their first machine to kick start the new venture.

The new machine, supplied by UK distributor Promax Access, boasts a seven section telescopic boom, topped by a two section telescopic articulated jib. It offers a 43.2 metre working height, an outreach of 17.3 metres with 136kg in the platform while the maximum platform capacity of 330kg is available at an outreach of up to 13 metres and 230kg up to 16.5 metres, with a three person rating.

Its multi position outrigger system allows it to level up on slopes or steps with height differences of up to 1.8 metres as well as lift the entire machine 1.3 metres clear of the ground with a width of over 2.5 metres - sufficient to reverse a trailer or truck bed under for loading without the need for ramps. Overall width ranges from a minimum of 1.41 metres with a height of 1.99 metres to an extended width of 1.9 metres. Total weight is 12,570kg.

Power comes from a Stage V/Tier 5 Kubota diesel along with an electric power source fuelled by a Lithium-ion battery pack. Features include intuitive radio remote controls, automatic outrigger levelling, continuous 360 degree slew a telescopic articulating jib, an on board generator providing power, water and compressed air to the platform for cleaning and maintenance applications.

The unit was also supplied with a 350kg winch for lifting duties such as glazing or telecom antenna installations and painted in a custom black livery for use on TV and film sets.

Hawksworth said: “We wanted to start our new venture with a bang and from everything we have seen so far we are confident the new 43T will deliver! It ticks all the boxes and hopefully it will open a lot of doors when it comes to telecom and power line work as well as building maintenance applications.”

Gallagher added: “We are both delighted and excited to be the first to offer this product in the UK. It comes fully loaded with all the latest and greatest features and benefits which our customers from across a range of industries will appreciate.”

Shaun Day of Promax said: “Both Clearview and Tracked Access Platforms have experienced the quality and reliability of Platform Basket spider lifts in the past, but I think they are going to be blown away with what this model is able to achieve. It offers all the benefits and operating features of a larger truck mounted platform but with the versatility and flexibility of a compact tracked chassis to access, set-up and operate on difficult locations.”
